My CAC PIN is mysteriously locked. Other than going to an ID Card issuing facility, how do I get the PIN unlocked?

The only way to unblock a CAC is at an ID card office. :( To find the nearest one, look at the RAPIDS Site Locator at: http://www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl

I always wondered. I saw that the Active client has an option to make changes there, but I didn't think that would be so secure. I once had to reset it due to testing I was doing for my civilian employer, so I made sure my employer paid me to go to the Rapids site for the reset.

The ActivClient software does allow you to change your PIN, but you have to know the current PIN, and the card cannot be blocked.

I've learned (and verified) that some unit personnel sections have been given permissions to unblock CACs and reset PINs. We'll see on Monday if this works.

This is possible if they have either a CPR (CAC PIN Reset station), or a full blown RAPIDS computer. Good luck, I see you are not in the US, so, I'm not sure how good the RAPIDS site locator is for you. http://www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl

There is no way that I know of to remotely unlock a CAC. I know that some S1's can reset the pin. Besides that the only other option is the ID Facility.

Thanks for the note on S1s being able to do this. I'll find out on Monday when I make a trip to a local unit if this actually works.

Sir,
As working in a S6 office there is a way that is easier, you get the S6 personal to be logged in and then they go into the cac creditenals and reset pin. I have done it once before to help out a soldier who needed it reset I hope this helps you Sir

SPC Friar, how did the S6 office reset a blocked CAC? Do they have a finger print reader and access to DEERS? The PIN can be changed, but it can't be blocked.

That's different at my office the option is unlocked I'm not an admin and don't have the code but have done it to my cac as well and it went through and worked. Maybe it's different security will make it work or not work I don't have the knowledge to know more on it but I'll ask around my office to find out more

SPC Friar, I do see the unlock card when using ActivClient 6.2.0.x at home. It does require an unlock code. I'm familiar with this at work for our ASCLs. But, I have to get the unlock code from the CAC/PKI office. Also, our computers at the office have that option hidden. So, it would take an administrator to get to it, but unless they have an unlock code, I'm not sure how they can unlock a person's CAC. The security function of the CAC is that it requires a finger print at an ID card office or CAC PIN Reset station.
