I’m trying to find out how to make Kindle for Chrome read an eBook to me via text-to-speech to no avail. I have basically no idea how to do it, but my friend has done it so I know that there has to be a way. Thank you!

  1. Kindle Cloud does not have text to speech functionality but you can download Kindle for PC. It has text to speech via accessibility plugin. Maybe TTS extensions for Chrome would work. Try them too.

    • Does Kindle for PC have a built-in TTS engine? How do you make it read the text of an ebook I downloaded? I bought it from Amazon so it's not like it's some downloadable file I obtained from an alternate website.

    • Here is a link on Using the PC version with TTS. You need to have additional software installed.

    • That's a broken URL.

    • The link works. Please try again.

    • Ok. I installed it. How do I actually use it once it's installed?

    • Follow the instructions here http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/?nodeId=200596280&pop-up=1. Start Microsoft Narrator before using the keyboard shortcut.

    • Microsoft Narrator is pre-installed on Windows.

    • I installed the additional software, and I opened an ebook and I hit CTRL + R. It doesn't work for some reason since I don't hear anything being read.

  2. It appears based on my research that you are referring to the Send to Kindle Google Chrome extension as seen at http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/chrome/ Is that correct? Are you wanting your Kindle Fire or older device to read what you are sending to your device once it arrives? If so then the following articles will help you solve the issue; I have no idea which Kindle device you are using. Good luck.

    • I'm not using the actual Kindle device. I have a chrome extension called Kindle Cloud Reader and I am running into some setbacks while trying to make this app read the book to me aloud.

    • Take a look at http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/chrome-speak-select-text-from-any-webpage-to-read-out-loud-chrome/ and see if it might hold an answer for you. I had forgotten about Kindle Cloud Reader which will work in any desktop browser. Hopefully this is more along the lines of what you need. Good luck.

I am not a Mac user, but i would try whichever mechanism is used for text selection in other applications. Why does the Kindle Chrome app not allow full-text searches, but other Kindle apps do? Why can't I highlight or take notes on Kindle Cloud Reader? Can I read mathematical texts on Kindle? Please post a screenshot of how.
